Today I'm happy to welcome Vivian Arend once again to the Blog. She is one of the few authors whom I follow in all the romance subgenres she writes...whether it's her paranormal, erotic, contemporary or cowboy romances...Her writing in all the subgenres is consistently good and I most definitely click with the light, humorous tone she pours over her work.
Today she's treating us to a post about the "perfect man" and introducing us to ROCKY MOUNTAIN HEAT , which I've had the pleasure of reading not once but twice as I read the original release too. My review is coming up Monday and I think I loved it even more the second time around.
So without further ado I want to give the floor to Vivian:
Oh, the elusive perfect man. Where will we find him?
The interesting thing is he’s everywhere, but no hero is perfect for just any heroine. It’s the exact right combination of personalities, strength, weaknesses, that combined make or break a relationship in a book.
One of the comments I got the first time someone read Rocky Mountain Heat was ‘Jaxi kissed all the brothers? ICK!’ (Jaxi being the heroine, the brothers being 6 of them.) The reality is in small towns, the dating pool is often very shallow, so yes, she’d kissed or been kissed by all of them by the time the story opens.
All, that is, except the one she really wants. And who’s that perfect match for her.
Blake is in for a fine ride to get to his happily ever after, but between the two of them, it happens. With more an a few kisses along the way. Which is how it should be, right? The perfect hero finds his perfect partner.

The Six Pack Ranch series was originally published with a small epub. Rocky Mountain Heat in August, 2009, and Rocky Mountain Haven in March, 2010. The reception to the books was very positive, including Haven winning the 2010 EPPIE award for Erotic Western Romance. The publisher then dropped their print program, and because Vivian wanted this series to go to print, she approached her current publisher, Samhain Publishing, and they offered to contract the series. (Pearl: Much to my pleasure! Because this series needs to be in continued and in print!)
Both book 1 and 2 have been extensively revised, with over 20K more material added to each. A brand new book, Rocky Mountain Desire, was written so that the two rereleases can be followed immediately by a new book in the series.
Release information for the upcoming Six Pack Ranch books
Book 1: Rocky Mountain Heat: November 15.
Book 2: Rocky Mountain Haven: January 10, 2012
Book 3: Rocky Mountain Desire: March 13, 2012

He’s the one who taught her to ride. Now all he wants is to ride her.
Blake Coleman is old enough to know that acting on impulse causes nothing but a heap of trouble. But when trouble’s a western-hat-wearing blonde with slim legs that go on forever, what’s a man to do? Wanting the sweet girl next door is just wrong. The responsible thing to do is keep his hands off.
Jaxi has other plans for Blake’s hands, and his heart. She may have once considered him a big brother, but that was a long time ago. She’s all grown up now and ready to convince him that she’s perfect for him. Except he can’t seem to see past the big “don’t touch” sign that’s apparently still hanging around her neck.
When Jaxi ends up living right under Blake’s nose, the undeniable heat between them slides off simmer and leaps up to barn-burning levels. However, a few of the younger six-pack Colemans have decided Jaxi’s brand of trouble is worth risking a few busted bones.
That is, if Blake’s finally ready to let go the reins and fight for what he wants…
Warning: Sexy cowboys seducing and being seduced in trucks, pool halls and barns. Droolworthy country charm, a little double-teaming, a few secrets and a whole lot of brothers to look forward to. Anyone wanna go for a ride?

Their wolves are howling at the moon. Their human halves are on different planets.
Lone wolf Shaun Steven’s automatic response to the words “happily ever after”? Kill me now. Yet with all his friends settling down he’s begun to think there may actually be something to this love-and-roses crap.
One thing’s for sure: his dream mate will have to out-cuss, out-spit and out-hike him. So he never expected the one to push his forever button would be a blue-blooded Southern debutante with a voice as dark and velvety as her skin.
When Gemmita Jacobs steps off the plane in Whitehorse, Yukon, it’s about more than her research project. It’s her declaration of independence from an overprotected upbringing. Except there’s something in the air she can’t quite define—something that unexpectedly rouses her mating instincts.
Moments after their eyes lock, the deed is done—and done thoroughly. When the pheromone dust settles, though, all the reasons they don’t belong together become painfully clear.
It’s enough to make a wolf learn a whole new set of cuss words…
Warning: Two strong wolves getting exactly what they deserve. Includes wilderness nookie, shifters being naughty in public places, the Midnight Sun as a canopy for seduction and grizzly shifters on the loose. Oh, and don’t forget the sarcasm.
Title: BLACK GOLD
Author: Vivian Arend
Series: Takhini Wolves, book 1
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Publisher: Samhain Publishing
Year of release: 2011, September 13
Format: eBook
Source: Received an e-ARC from author for review
First line:
“Excuse me, ladies.”
Memorable Scenes:
- drunk Shaun > hilarious!
- lunch scene with Evan and Caroline > there had better be yummy stuff coming for Caroline and Evan!
- Caroline's dominance fight > awesome fight scene
Gemmita 'Gem' Jacobs is on a quest for adventure and independence in the form of a field excursion to the Yukon area. She’s stubborn and determined. I loved Gem and her genuine enthusiasm and zest for life. Her attitude of not wanting to be controlled and wanting to taken serious by the men in her life was what I loved most about her.
Shaun Stevens is a helicopter pilot. The pilot charged with flying Gem to her research location. He’s rebellious, blunt and unpretentious. He’s also a little restless and listless and sort of going through the motions of life without a goal or mission. Seeing his friends find their mates he realizes he’s longing for a mate of is own too. I liked Shaun more when he was being his whatever and rough round the edges self. When he was trying too much to be a gentleman to Gem he didn't wow me that much and I'd want him going back to his swearing –forgetting to hold the door for her or pull her chair– self.
I loved the romance in this book, loved Shaun, Gem and how they matched together! Their chemistry is explosive, intense and scorching. At first I thought things were going very smooth for them, a bit too smooth. Then Shaun put his foot in his mouth, Gem was insulted by his lack of trust in her abilities and the fireworks started. I loved the battles of will and wit between them. They were one of the things that made this a great book next to the nice balance between action, romance and characterization.
I welcomed all the newly introduced characters and I suspect there's lots of yummy to come in this series. Evan and Caroline were interesting to say the least. But I was also very happy to have a small reunion with TJ, my very favorite Granite Lake wolfie, when he made an appearance. I’ll always have a soft spot for TJ ;)
BLACK GOLD is a great start of this new shifter series by Vivian Arend. Her trademark humorous and lighthearted writing style remains strong even when she ups the ante and takes the characters to a more complicated emotional level. BLACK GOLD was longer than the books in the Granite Lake Wolves series and this left room for more depth and complications in the characterization and story lines. Since that was the one thing I was missing in Vivian Arend’s previous books, I really liked this and look forward to future longer stories by her.
And yes, the ever-present humorous wit and banter wasn't missing in BLACK GOLD either. All the characters, main and secondary, contributed to the fun vibe and great dynamics of the book.
Again Vivian Arend's wonderful writing made this book another great reading experience. The ease with which the world building is done and the paranormal elements are meshed with characterization and romance made for a fast-paced fluently flowing book. The writing shines in its simplicity and clarity. No elaborate plots or intricate world building. Just straightforward and enjoyable storytelling that's spiced up with a sweet and sizzling romance.
Favorite Quotes:
There was no doubt Evan was the strongest wolf in the area, but the dude was nuttier than a fruitcake at times.
There was a pause—only a second—as they stared into each other’s eyes. Then the world exploded as they both moved.
He hadn’t kissed her before. Now he consumed her, feasting at her mouth as if he was starving. She returned as good as he gave, nipping and licking, her tongue tangling with his. The exhilarating flavour of her mate burst onto her taste buds, adding to the richness of her pleasure.
He tasted wild. There was raw energy in his kiss, the hint of a sweet aftertaste that made her smile against his lips.
Any pain she’d experienced was gone, replaced with the urgent desire to use him like a pogo stick.
His grin was mesmerizing. “I would love to be your guide. Put yourself entirely into my hands.”
Into his hands. The coals in her belly fanned to high heat, and she forced herself to ignore them. Not now. They had already established they could have sex. Hot sex. Melt-the-sheets sex.
Then she lifted her chin and calmly stepped away from the table, leaving a stunned Shaun in her wake. He watched her walk a few paces before leaping to his feet.
“Shaun,” Evan warned. “You might want to give her a little space to cool off.”
His friend turned back in the middle of the room, the most pleased expression on his face. “Are you kidding? She’s got a freaking backbone. I love it!”
Then she snorted, and his ego got a little bruised. “Oh yes, the legendary wolfish sex drive. It’s okay, Evan, I think I can handle anything you want to dish out. Only I’m not doing kinky things with you when you’re in your wolf form. I draw the line at that.” (Caroline & Evan)
He was going to lose his ever-loving mind at this rate.
A dozen measured strokes later he was praying for a miracle. If he didn’t do something now—stop, recite the times table— something, he was about to go up in smoke.
Evan chuckled. “I know everything, man. It’s politics. Every so many years—and no one seems to know exactly how many—the bears meet to redistribute territory and such. Their hierarchy is way more formal than the way we wolves do things. They vote and shit.”
No way. “Like, no beating each other up or ripping out throats for leadership? They vote on bits of paper and that decides the leaders?”
“Barbaric, isn’t it?”
Vivian has gracefully offered another full set of the Granite Lake Wolves ebooks (Wolf Signs, Wolf Flight, Wolf Games and Wolf Tracks) and I'm giving this set away to one of the commenters on this ARC-Review.
WOLF SIGNS
WOLF FLIGH
WOLF GAMES
WOLF TRACKS
Besides the Granite Lake Wolves ebook set (offered by Vivian) I'm also personally giving away an e-copy of BLACK GOLD because I really think it has a lot of appeal for paranormal romance readers.
Giveaway Rules:
- This giveaway is open internationally.
- I will draw and announce the two winners on Sunday September 25st
- If you have a preference for either just the Granite Lake Wolves set or just the BLACK GOLD ebook, make this clear in your entry

Today I'd like to welcome Carly Phillips to my little corner on the worldwide web. I'm honored to have Carly on the Blog today as she is one of the authors who got me hooked on contemporary romance. Early on when I started reading English romance novels I discovered her (probably by randomly clicking on author websites) and needless to say (almost) her entire backlist is perched on my shelves, some still waiting to be read. Her Lucky Charm Trilogy are among one of my favorite contemporary series and I have no doubt her Serendipity series will soon follow the same path!
As part of her Blog-Tour in honor of her newest release SERENDIPITY (release date: September 6th) she agreed to be interviewed by yours truly. Let me tell you, her answers were what saved this interview. As I am one of the worst interviewers in the blogosphere (hence why I have so little of them on the Blog LOL), I shed blood, sweat and tears coming up with original, interesting and fun questions...Thanks Carly, for taking the time to get through them ;)
Carly Phillips Bio:
Carly Phillips is the New York Times Bestselling author of over 30 romance novels with contemporary characters and plotlines that today’s readers identify with and enjoy. Carly is a stay at home mom of 2 daughters (now almost old enough to read her books!), one soft coated wheaten terrier and a brand new Havanese puppy. She’s a Twitter and Internet junkie and is always around to interact with her readers. More information on Carly can be found at her website.

Carly, the author
What does an average writing day look like for you?
Well ... how about an ideal writing day? Every day is different - I have kids, 2 dogs, if I plan a day of writing, someone will get sick. So an ideal writing day is sitting down around 9 - writing for 2 hours - going out, doing some errands, home by around 1 PM and watching Soaps while I continue to work until I have to carpool or do other things. As I said, that is ideal. Actually I write in fits and spurts when I have time, when I can, depending on if the work is flowing ... or not.
Lately I've been seeing a lot of (sub)genre-hopping as I call it. You write contemporary romance, which I enthusiastically applaud, but have you ever considered writing in another genre or subgenre? If so, what would you consider writing and why?
I am a true believer in writers doing what they do best. I am doing what I love, and I hope that shows to the reader. I read in other genres (paranormal, erotica, etc.), but that is my enjoyment, my reach into other worlds that gets me away from the contemporary writer I am. Right now I don’t want to write another genre. There are too many others who do it well – paranormal requires a world building that is so foreign to me, I’d rather get lost as a reader than write it and try to keep track. Historical means I’d have to research (blech!) and true suspense would mean my brain would have to work differently! So, I’m a happy contemporary romance writer and a very happy all-genre romance reader.
Fans, readers can also be very vocal when they don't like something. I don't always agree with how fellow readers express their dissatisfaction. How do you deal with that as an author?
Diplomatically, everyone is entitled to their opinion. That said, if you're unhappy, think about if you were the person on the receiving end of the email or blog or post - and know someone put their heart and soul into the story - you don't have to like it - but you don't have to be rude to the creator either. But yes, everyone is entitled to express their opinion. I just wish they'd do it nicely ;)
As an author you must receive a lot of fanmail. Tell us about your most memorable fanletter/email you've ever received?
I LOVE hearing from readers. My favorite emails are the ones that say something like, I never liked to read and then I picked up one of your books and now I can’t stop. Wow. That’s so humbling and makes me happy. A woman wrote because her grandmother had passed away and she found a postcard note I’d sent her among her possessions – and she thanked me for making an older woman happy by replying. Those things are priceless!

As an avid romance reader I adore love stories (well duh! LOL) and I'm always asking people about theirs. So what's the story with you and your significant other? How did you meet? Was it love at first sight? How long have you been together?
Great question! We met in college - we both went to Brandeis University in MA. My 19 year old goes there now! Love at first sight? Not sure ... he had to work for it, LOL. We've been together since our sophomore year - 26 years, ack! Married 22. I wouldn't change a thing!
Describe who Carly Phillips is using just 5 words?
Wow.
Mother (of 2 daughters and 2 dogs), wife, daughter, friend, writer/author - waah! I want more room. LOL.
When you have the time to read, what kind of books do you love to read? Have you read any books recently, preferably romance of course, you would like to recommend to us?
I used to read only contemporary but thankfully ventured out of my comfort zone recently and found some fabulous authors! I can never name them all or not forget one ...
Contemporary – Jill Shalvis, Toni Blake, my Plotmonkey pals Janelle Denison, Leslie Kelly, Julie Leto, Lauren Dane
Paranormal – Nalini Singh (Psy series), Larissa Ione, Sydney Croft
HOT – Lauren Dane, Lainey Reese wrote an all time fav of mine, A Table for Three … So many more …
I know you love your soaps. Do you know my romance addiction started with watching soaps, Another World to be precise? What is your favorite soap and what are the reasons I should watch it if I can?
My go to staple has always been ABC - All My Children, One Life to Live, and General Hospital. As I am sure you know, ABC has recently devastated me by canceling All My Children and One Life to Life - I'd recommend watching those now through the end because unlike other soaps, this is you can't miss a day or you miss everything race to the end. But knowing they're ending, if you have to pick one, watch GENERAL HOSPITAL because we need to get viewers and save the last ABC soap. And it's just a fantastic show. Best romantic pairing? Jason and Sam.
You have a free day, no obligations, no work, no appointments, your free to do whatever you please. What do you do on such a day?
Believe it or not? Same thing. Just let me sleep in, read a lot, hang on the Internet, have lunch with a family member or friend ... watch my Soaps, order in dinner and chill! I'm not fussy or hard to please!
About SERENDIPITY
Tell us a bit about your upcoming release, Serendipity?
Serendipity is the name of both the series for Berkley and the first book set in a fictional small town in upstate New York. At the center of the town is the landmark Harrington Mansion, the epitome of wealth and privilege. The series opens with SERENDIPITY, which introduces readers to the estranged Barron brothers, brought together by a teenage sister they didn't know they had and family drama they haven't yet put to rest. These books tap deeper into emotions than my more recent books while keeping the trademark sensuality and light moments my readers expect. Book one, Serendipity 9/11 is the story of Ethan Barron, the "bad boy" oldest brother. Ethan returns home after ten years and finds himself tempted by the girl who was too good for him in high school, but now their social status are reversed, as he now owns the Harrington mansion - in which she grew up. At heart, Serendipity is the story of a man who is looking for redemption and a woman in search of a place to belong.
I'm so excited about this series and I hope readers really respond to the town and the characters, all of whom I already love. The Serendipity series will continue with the other two brothers, Nash Barron in Destiny 1/12 and Dare Barron in Karma 6/12. I hope to then continue to write about the town and people in Serendipity in three book arcs, and continue to spin on to other characters in the town readers have already met within the pages.
Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions and I look forward to reading Serendipity!
Thank you, Pearl!

About SERENDIPITY
New York Times bestselling author Carly Phillips presents the first in a delightful new series about a quaint upstate New York town where love, fate and fortune are intertwined …
Faith Harrington was the classic girl of privilege–until her father was convicted of running a Ponzi scheme and then her marriage crashed and burned.
Now Faith is back in her hometown, hoping for a fresh start. But her father’s betrayal has rocked Serendipity – and not everyone is ready to welcome her with open arms. Then she runs into her teenage crush — the dark, brooding Ethan Barron. Ethan, no stranger to scandal himself, never imagined he’d own the mansion on the hill, much less ever again come face to face with Faith–the princess he once kissed senseless. The chance meeting reignites the electric charge between them.
Still, when Ethan hires her to redecorate what was once her childhood home, Faith is sure that getting involved with the town’s notorious bad boy will only lead to trouble. But her heart has other ideas. And so do the townspeople of Serendipity …

Carly has generously offered a Limited Edition signed Romance Trading card of Serendipity and Destiny to one of the commenters on this Blogpost.
In addition to that and because I'm so excited about this new Carly Phillips series, I'm offering a second commenter a copy of SERENDIPITY (ordered and shipped via the BookDepository).

On my second day of hosting the Wolfie World Tour Viv has an excerpt for us from BLACK GOLD. When I read the excerpt I was thrilled because my favorite Wolfie makes an appearance: TJ! I hope you'll all enjoy the excerpt and don't forget that any comment on the Wolfie World Tour posts will be included in the draw for the Grand prize of a $50 gift certificate to a bookstore of your choice. Also, check out Vivian's Blog for the daily Friends of the Wolfies contest!
The Wolfie World Tour continues tomorrow and Tuesday at Stella's Blog: Ex Libris, so hop on over to Hungary and make sure you comment there too as every comment goes towards that Grand Prize draw for the $50 gift certificate!
And now for the excerpt:
Shaun spun his spoon between his fingers. Played with his coffee cup. Leaned back in his chair and rocked it precariously on two feet. He’d dressed and paced the room until Gem had basically ordered him to wait in the restaurant for her. It was either follow directions or break down the bathroom door, which she’d locked on him, and since he didn’t think Evan would appreciate him smashing up the hotel, he’d taken his reluctant carcass away and left his mate alone.
As he sat pondering his future, he didn’t know if he should run and hide, or go buy flowers.
“Careful. You break the chair, Evan will charge you to replace it. At least he always charges me.”
A familiar teasing grin poked into Shaun’s line of vision, and he caught himself a split second before tipping over onto his ass.
“TJ, what’re you doing here?”
The lanky young man grabbed the chair next to him, pivoted it to face backwards, and sat, straddling the seat. “Pam’s coming home today for a two-week stint. I’m picking her up at the airport, then we’re doing the four-hour drive back to Haines. Granite Lake pack is holding a celebratory…”
He sniffed the air, and his eyes grew wide.
Oh shit. TJ had the best nose in the north. Shaun figured Gem’s scent was all over him, and not only as a female he’d spent the night with for a bit of slap and tickle. He held up a hand. “I don’t want to hear it.”
As usual TJ ignored him. “Holy cow. Do I smell what I think I smell?”
“Shut it.” Just what he didn’t need. Love advice from someone nearly ten years his junior who until last year was best known for causing natural disasters everywhere he went. Didn’t matter that he and TJ belonged to different packs, there was enough history between them Shaun should have been eager to share his news, but no. Fucking. Way.
His friend paused for a moment then shrugged. “Okay.”
TJ motioned for the waitress, and she zipped over to pour him a coffee and top up Shaun’s.
It was the coward’s path. Shaun took an extra long time adding sugar and cream to his cup in an attempt to avoid having to talk. To justify why he was sitting here by himself when it would be clear to any wolf in the area that he had just found his mate.
The urge to blurt out something—to explain away what he didn’t really understand himself—was so strong Shaun had to bite his lips.
For once, TJ seemed to take the hint and drop the subject.
“You heading to the hangar in Haines Junction soon? Tad had me go get the aircraft ready for the summer season.” TJ grimaced. “The float plane was easy, but I don’t know what the hell you left in the chopper the last time you flew her. There were like a million mice nesting in there.”
“Sorry.”
“You’re worse than the pack kids. You know, when I dropped in at Tad and Missy’s last week I nearly broke my neck, and it wasn’t me being a klutz. Those kids have enough Lego to build a causeway to Russia. Plus, with the balls and stuffed shit there are times I think…”
Shaun pinched the bridge of his nose. Having TJ not ask about his mate was worse than having the discussion.
He gave up and scowled at the younger wolf. “Met her last night.”
TJ thumped rapidly on the chair back in front of him to produce a drum roll. “Now we’re getting somewhere. You work fast.”
Damn wolf genes. “It wasn’t my idea.”
TJ gave him the look. “Believe me, I know about having choices taken out of your hands. You’re a wolf, mating is never completely your decision.” He glanced around before warning, “Just a heads-up. That excuse, it wasn’t my idea? Like totally gets my ass kicked when I try to use it.”

My first day to host the Wolfie World Tour is here! Welcome Vivian, visitors and of course Shaun. I love that Vivian shows in this post how both series are connected. I must honestly admit I noticed the mentions of Shaun in WOLF SIGNS and WOLF FLIGHT but reading those books I was so focused on TJ (uhm I might have a bit of a crush on TJ...) that I didn't really notice Shaun until I was reading TJ's book. And boy did I notice him then! I think I immediately asked Vivian if there was going to be a book about him and she confirmed that, once again making me a happy reader.
Viv, the floor is yours!
The Takhini Wolves series is a part of the Granite Lake world, and there’s a lot of overlap, not the least being the familiar character of Shaun Stevens as the hero of BLACK GOLD. I thought it would be fun to show you a few glimpses today of Shaun in the previous four GLW books.
First time he’s mentioned? Bottom of the first page of WOLF SIGNS. Yup, Shaun’s been around for a looooooong time.
Robyn paced a few steps away before turning back to face him, her hands flowing smoothly as she spoke to her brother in American Sign Language. “I understand, Tad. You need to take the job. I’m still going to Granite.”
“No way. You can’t go by yourself.”
“You have.”
“But that’s different, Robyn.”
“Don’t be a jerk. I don’t have a penis so I can’t go backcountry alone?”
Tad raised his eyebrows. “It’s not the lack of plumbing, sis, and you know it. I very seldom go bush alone and if I do meet anyone, it’s not a big deal. I’m male, I’m strong and I’m not deaf. How do you plan on talking to strangers?”
Robyn threw a pillow his way before lifting her hands to sign at him. “I’ll take some notepads. What are the chances of meeting anyone at Granite this time of year? We always go in February because no one else does. I’m packed, the food is packed, and I’ve got time off work from the bakery. You even booked a helicopter ride in for me with your buddy Shaun. I’ve never gotten to fly in before.
In WOLF FLIGHT, we discover that Shaun is more than just a buddy, he’s actually the business partner of hero Tad, whose sister Robyn got the helicopter flight in that previous quote. Shaun likes the ladies, even considers hitting on Robyn (if Tad wasn’t very insistent that idea was a hell no). Shaun’s all about friends, not so much about pack. He’s the kind of guy you’d like by your side in a tough spot. Blunt, even-keeled, laid-back.
Bloody wolf hormones.
“Doesn’t it bother you?” Tad asked. “Being out of control of your own destiny?”
“What are you talking about?”
“The wolf. The way being a wolf changes your whole life.” Tad stared into space, his fingers fidgeting with the arms of his chair.
Shaun scrunched up his face. “Uh, no… I mean, so I can change into a wolf. It’s no big deal. It’s not like I have uncontrollable urges to howl or shift involuntarily when the moon is full. My wolf is just a part of who I am. An amazing, completely honest part of me.”
Tad snorted. “You’ve never been so poetic in your life. Damn it, I’m talking about the stupid wolf hormones. Don’t try to tell me they don’t dictate your life. They sure as hell do mine. We can’t even decide who to marry without our wolves approving.”
His partner laughed as he leaned back on the table. “Mates? You’re worried about finding a mate again. Tad? Holy crap, you need to get laid.”
Finally, in WOLF TRACKS, Shaun is instrumental in getting hero TJ and his sweetie some needed one-on-one time so they can figure out their interesting relationship. This is a bigger deal than you’d think at first—considering that wolves operate on a strict hierarchy, Shaun basically had to stay hidden for the duration in order to keep TJ and Pam’s location a secret. Otherwise he could have been ordered to spill the beans early. It takes a true friend to be willing to defy all the Alpha wolves in the entire north.
The loudening flap flap of the propeller blades reached them, and Pam’s eyes widened. “What’s he doing?”
She scrambled to the side, and her jaw fell open as the chopper lifted. The air pressure flattened them to the ground as Shaun got away. TJ waved at his friend as the aircraft rose, hovering over the field for a moment before rotating and taking off into the distance.
“What is going on? Stop it…come back.” Pam ran after the helicopter, waving her arms frantically before returning, her beautiful brown eyes wide. “He left us. What is he doing?”
TJ stood and pulled her back into his arms. “Don’t worry, it’s okay. He’ll be back.”
She relaxed. “Well, that’s good. How long do we have before he returns?”
“A week.”
In terms of how else the series mesh, Shaun and Tad were both a part of one of the Takhini packs (I mentioned that at the first stop of the tour—two packs in Whitehorse) based out of Whitehorse, but they usually lived/slept close to where their planes were stored—the community of Haines Junction. This small Yukon town is the junction point for continuing up the Alaskan highway to Anchorage, or turning southward to the ocean and Haines—where the Granite Lake pack now resides.
Other than Shaun, the similarities in the stories…hmmm, sarcasm? Light-hearted discussions? The setting of the Yukon and Alaska wilderness, and gold rush towns such as Dawson City. A happily ever after—and this time because the story is longer, there’s more time for all of it. More adventures, more confusion. More wolfies.
Come back tomorrow for an excerpt with Shaun and TJ from BLACK GOLD. Be sure to leave a comment here to be included in the draw for the Grand prize of a $50 gift certificate. Also, check out my blog for the daily Friends of the Wolfies contest!

There are many shifter authors I love... Shelly Laurenston, Cynthia Eden, to name a couple. The newest (to-me) shifter series that has won my heart is Nalini Singh's Psy/Changeling series. I especially love their complete sense of loyalty, family and friendship. Those qualities coupled with strength and grace just make me melt.
I've not read Vivian's Granite Lake series but look forward to doing so. I have read (& re-read!) her Tangled Tinsel, and thoroughly enjoyed it... a very sexy shifter story! :)
I would love either prize but prefer the ebook copies of the series.
Thanks for the giveaway!

As part of the NEVER ENOUGH Blog Tour I will not be offering a review, a (character-)interview or guestblog by Lauren Dane. I've decided to go for a Quotes-Post (thanks Leontine! You set off the light-bulb moment). It will be slightly different than the Quotes-Posts I've done earlier because this time I also asked the author for her favorite quotes, since I love hearing from others what lines speak to them, and I'm even more fascinated to know from the authors themselves.
Turns out that combined Lauren and I had 34 favorite quotes! Lauren sent me 9 and I marked 25...Yes, 25!
Of those 34 we have 2 exactly the same and I've decided to add 7 of mine to this post to match Lauren's other 7. But first let me offer you the blurb of this wonderful book. I devoured this book in almost one sitting and it will be given a 9.4/10, Adrian and Gillian blew my socks off! (My review will follow later this week).
And now the quotes:
Lauren Dane's and my Favorite Quotes in common:
Some of Lauren Dane's Favorite Quotes:
Some of my Favorite Quotes:
So those were the quotes!
Be on the lookout for my review coming Friday...and check out Leontine's Beefcake Interview with the man himself, Adrian Brown!!
Now for the giveaway. Yes, there's a giveaway...

I devoured this book in almost one sitting and it will be given a 9.4/10, Adrian and Gillian blew my socks off! (My review will follow later this week).
ALL THE RIGHT NOTES…
Gillian Forrester spent most of her life running from who and what she came from. Until Miles came along. From the moment she held the tiny newborn her older sister didn't want, Gillian stopped running and began to build a life for herself and her adopted son. Now, thirteen years later, as Gillian's sister lay dying, she reveals the father's identity and makes Gillian promise to find him.
Adrian Brown is the epitome of the successful rock star. He's seen and done it all, with few regrets. It takes a lot to shock him but the bombshell that he has a thirteen-year-old son rocks his world. And Adrian is even more surprised when the buttoned-up, elegant woman who's raising Miles snags his erotic and romantic attention.
The last thing Gillian expected was to find herself getting hot and heavy with a person like Adrian. But as much as she wants to open up and give herself fully to this amazing man, she's afraid the secrets of her past and Adrian's problems with trusting people may keep them apart for good. If love isn't enough can they find the trust they need?
And now the quotes:
Lauren Dane's and my Favorite Quotes in common:
Miles skidded into the kitchen and looked from his mother to his father and chuckled. “You’re in big trouble, mate. When she starts sounding like an episode of EastEnders I usually just run for it. Protect your junk.” And with that, he turned and bolted from the room. p 208
Adrian Brown laid waste to her reserve. Barging in and taking up residence inside her. In her heart and head and damn it, it felt good. And right. He understood her, darkness and all. p 212
Some of Lauren Dane's Favorite Quotes:
And just like that, she stood. “All right then. Clock’s ticking, Adrian Brown. Dazzle me and I might just give you an A.” (p 81)
Some American things were simply undoubtedly better. Button-down jeans were one of those things. A zipper was sexy enough, yes, but that sound as the metal button cleared the denim seemed to mainline straight to her clit. p 104
"I know we’re sort of like the Borg, sweeping in and taking over with our bright colors and loud voices.” p 140 (Erin to Gillian)
One brow slid up as if it could not believe his audacity. Which only made him more audacious just to poke at her and bring out her English. p 153
“So fucking nothing. Stop being so defensive. It just means you’re having to work for it. Welcome to the real world where the rest of us have to rely on our wits instead of our guitars to get women.” p 180 Cope to Adrian
“Your mother makes me nervous. In a good way,” he amended quickly.
“She doesn’t bring men around. She doesn’t date much. She lets you get away with stuff she’d shoot someone else in the face over.”
“Christ, she’s going to kill me when she hears you say that. Stop with the shooting-in-the-face references.” p 206 between Adrian and Miles
She was his family. The mother of his son. And it meant so much that he’d have loved her just for that. But there was more because she was his. That’s all he could say to himself that felt most true. He’d looked at her and his entire being had gone taut and he’d thought, Mine. p 229
Some of my Favorite Quotes:
Brody opened his front door. “Why’d you knock? You have a key.”
Adrian moved past his brother and kicked off his shoes in the hall, hanging his jacket on the way.
“It was late. I didn’t want to just walk in. You and Elise could have been doing all manner of things and my fragile psyche can’t handle that.” (p.34)
His speech had a cadence to it, slow and honeyed. Not southern, but something similar. As if he liked to roll his words over his palate before he gave them up. (p.39)
She got a pretty good feel of what he was packing when she’d been against her hallway wall, his body pressing against hers with just the right amount of pressure.
She shivered. A dominant kiss from a laid-back man. (p.73)
“He loves the ladies, does our Alexander.” Erin cocked her head at her son, who blew her a kiss. “I’m afraid he’s just as terminally charming as the rest of the men in this family. Luckily, we’re a hearty bunch of womenfolk and can whip them into shape.” (p.138)
He touched her just right. Keeping her on the edge of climax as he filled her over and over.
And when it broke, it hit her hard, shattering all around her, pulling at her composure, threatening to unravel her.
So she threw herself into it. Into that very moment as desire ran wild through her veins as orgasm turned her inside out. (p.142)
He laughed again. “Do you know I think I laugh more with you than I ever have before, and I laughed a lot as it was.”
“I bet you’re agitated a lot more too.”
“Yes. Can’t deny it. Also can’t deny it makes me hot. So be it, I’m a weirdo. I can accept it. Your prickly, buttoned-up-to-the-neck thing works my libido hard.”
She sniffed delicately. “I may have noticed. It’s a good thing for us both. Not many men have a bitchy woman fetish.”
“I do believe you just made me guffaw with that one. They do say there’s a lid for every pot. You’re my lid, Gillian. Bitchy and all.” (p. 265)
She eyed his hand and then his face again, narrowing her gaze. He wiggled his hand again and she sighed. “You’re very bad for my constitution. I find myself breaking all sorts of personal Gillian Forrester rules for you.”
“From you, this is a great declaration of love.”
“Hm.”
“There she is.”
She sighed. “Really, if you’re a beast and you call me to tell me mean things again, I will carve your bits off with a rusty spoon I’ve sharpened against the pavement.” (p. 291)
So those were the quotes!
Be on the lookout for my review coming Friday...and check out Leontine's Beefcake Interview with the man himself, Adrian Brown!!

This review is the prequel of my APPLE TRAIL WEEK that will run from today until Friday May 27th. There will be reviews of the first 3 Uninhibited in Apple Trail, Arkansas series, guestposts by the author Keri Ford with a vlog on Wednesday and of course there will be prizes...lots and lots of prizes, graciously offered by the lovely Keri Ford. I hope this review will whet your appetite for the coming week and you'll come back tomorrow for one of Keri Ford's favorite excerpt from this series and to find out what the prizes are and how you can win them (one hint: start commenting on this review *wink*).
Title: THROUGH THE WALL
Author: Keri Ford
Series: Uninhibited in Apple Trail, Arkansas, book 1
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Publisher: Turquoise Morning Press
Year of release: 2010, December 20
Format: eBook
Source: Bought via Smashwords
First line:
Summer in the south was like living in a sauna 24/7.
Memorable Scenes:
- breakfast scene > This scene made a lasting impression on me.
Neighbors, friends and coworkers Stephanie Faulkner and Parker Madison are about to take their friendship to another level at Stephanie’s instigation. She wants Parker and isn’t taking no for an answer.
The star of THROUGH THE WALL for me was the heroine Stephanie Faulkner. Most of the time it’s the hero who stands out for me in the stories I read and in this book, while Parker isn’t too shabby, Stephanie definitely stole the show. She’s smart, sweet and determined.
Keri Ford was a new-to-me-author, once again found via Twitter. I saw a mention of her debut at Turquoise Morning and once I read the blurb I was a goner. Contemporary romance with a friends-to-lovers trope? I didn’t know how fast to hit that buy-button and I’m so very glad I did because it led me to a lovely read.
One thing that really stood out to me in THROUGH THE WALL was the humor that was there from the very start. I really like Keri's voice a lot and she made me instantly like Stephanie. As far as tropes go…you say: friends-to-lovers and I immediately say: Yes, please! And Keri Ford's THROUGH THE WALL is one of the better ones I've recently read with this trope.
My first taste of Keri’s Ford’s work has certainly left me wanting more. THROUGH THE WALL was a quick, enjoyable and well-written story even if the ending was rather sudden. Still, in the short span of the story Keri Ford managed to put her Apple Trail series on my radar and I'll definitely be looking out for the future books.
Stephanie Faulker doesn’t want wild and raunchy, just a little spice. She’s been hearing her neighbor’s nightly sexcapades through her bedroom wall and she wants a turn!
But Parker Madison isn’t so easily swayed. He wants Stephanie all right, but not just in the bedroom. He wants commitment and long-term, not a quick roll.
Short-term does not lead to long term. Or can it….hmm…we’ll have to wait and see what these two can do!

Still, in the short span of the story Keri Ford managed to put her Apple Trail series on my radar and I'll definitely be looking out for the future books.
Favorite Quotes:
She licked the last bit of salt from her now empty plastic cup and eyed the fine piece of hardened, tanned flesh prowling through the crowd. Yes, prowling. Parker took long strides, his eyes always searching and looking around; his mouth perfectly kicked up in this little grin that made the butterflies in her belly smile.
Parker breathed and continued working at talking himself out of it. A few moments of fun. Catch a bit of ass and apparently, possibly, spank some of it, too. Not how he’d wanted Stephanie Faulkner all these years. She was supposed to be a slow and torturous unwrapping. Hours spent learning each creamy, soft inch of her skin. Time taken to see what set her off and what made her beg and ache for more.

Since the giveaway I planned for the ARC-review of this book was cancelled because of circumstances in my off-line life I have decided to give away a copy (ordered via The BookDepository) to one of the commenters on this post. Below the review you can find how to enter.
On the run, in each other’s arms, with one last chance to survive.
A rugged Navy SEAL, Zane Scott was part of a failed mission to rescue Dr. Olivia Strohm from abduction by the terrorist group Dead Man’s Hand (DMH)—and her anguished screams have haunted him ever since. So when he gets word that the beautiful physician has escaped from her captors in Africa, he’s got personal reasons to storm the continent and save her.
Like her would-be liberator, Olivia carries the burden of a dark secret from her past. Ruthless and relentless, the DMH has threatened to hunt her down – and to systematically hurt anyone she’s close to. The last thing she wants is to be rescued—even by someone as shockingly handsome as Zane. Yet the hotheaded special ops hero has come for her, and together she and Zane just might have a shot at not only stopping DMH’s reign of terror, but also saving what’s left of their souls.
Title: PROMISES IN THE DARK
Author: Stephanie Tyler
Series: Shadow Force Series, book 2
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Publisher: Dell Books
Year of release: 2010, November 23
Format: Mass Market Paperback
Source: Received this book for review from the author
First line: Ohmohs... Ohmohs?
How much?
The incessant calls echoed in his ear, a mix of Krio and English he wouldn't soon forget as he ran through the crowded marketplace along the narrow streets by the harbor.
Memorable Scene:
- Zane and Liv's love scene in the rainstorm and the shack > intense and hot
PROMISES IN THE DARK picks up about several months after we left Zane at the end of LIE WITH ME. Zane was a character that very much intrigued me in that book. Beneath Zane’s aloof, don't-care attitude is a man wanting to belong, to make a difference, but he has a wild, impulsive streak that gets him into situations that other people try to avoid.
Dr. Olivia 'Liv' Strohm is a strong and determined woman. She’s resourceful, has a logical way of thinking and is decisive. I really admired Olivia's character. Already did in LIE WITH ME, and even more so now after reading her own book.
I truly love Stephanie Tyler's male characters and Zane, and his brother Caleb for that matter too, was no exception but even more than the men, I adore her female characters. They all have amazing inner strength and are resilient yet they're never hard or harsh because of the vulnerability she layers them with. Yet they're not picture-perfect, they make mistakes and have flaws and this makes them realistic and likeable. They aren't fearless but don't let their fears dominate their actions or paralyze them.
Once again Ms. Tyler blew me away with the multiple story lines, in the suspense as well as in the romance. There were times I would wonder where it was going but then I'd remember I was reading a Stephanie Tyler book and I'd know it would all click together in due course. The end of PROMISES IN THE DARK definitely packed a punch, after lulling me with what seemed to be coursing toward a smooth ending Ms. Tyler hit me with some exciting twists that had me reading breathlessly and rooting for the good guys.
I loved the "aha!" moments in this book. I praise and admire Ms. Tyler for keeping it fresh and unpredictable. However much I love (and crave/need) to see things coming sometimes, I actually enjoy the surprising revelations even more. I am once more in awe of Stephanie Tyler's imagination and writing skills. With every book from her hand that I read, I'm amazed at how someone can come up with these storylines that are always fresh and original.
Though Zane and Olivia are the main couple of this book, there are more characters who are crucial in the suspense plot and who provide some intense secondary romances. These characters’ back-stories of these characters, that I can't really call secondary anymore, are as extensive, intricate and poignant as Olivia's and Zane's and with all this stuff in addition to the suspense plot and the love stories, you'd think it might become a bit too descriptive or crowded. However, nothing is further from the truth. Tyler delivers well-rounded characters with a complete background that she seamlessly inserts into the rest of the story and I never get the feeling of being overwhelmed. I love that!
Every time I start a Stephanie Tyler military romance I expect a poignant romance, rounded characters with extensive and gritty back-stories and nail biting suspense and she has not once disappointed me. PROMISES IN THE DARK is no exception because from the moment I started it I was immediately sucked into the story as I was dying to know how Zane and Olivia's story would unfold.
Romantic suspense lovers should not miss this author or this series as Stephanie Tyler delivers on both romance and suspense, is never predictable and keeps you reading until way past your bedtime.
Favorite Quotes:
He murmured in her ear, “Open your eyes, Liv. I want you to know my name. To know me—to watch me when you come and know that I’m the one doing it to you.” His voice sent a visceral reaction, a blast of heat, as if she’d been licked by fire, and she wanted to go back and walk through it again and again.
(Cael) He wondered if she ever truly let go. Then again, he’d been asked the same question, albeit mainly by Zane. For the record, the answer was Hell yes. Especially in bed. Because there was a time and a place, and bed was the
time and the place. Well, so was the floor. The table. The
car . . . Yeah, time to get his mind back in the game.
(Vivi) As much control as she’d fooled herself into thinking she had over numbers—or anything—she now realized she barely had a grip on anything.
And this man . . . he could swallow her whole in one bite . . . and something trilled inside of her, as if to let her know if that was to happen, she would enjoy every second of it.
(Rowan) Her lips curved in pleasure, a small, contented moan escaped and she realized that, as of yet, she hadn’t seen Tristan smile. Then again, she hadn’t smiled all that much in past years, and any laughter had been born out of relief rather than true happiness or humor. But she wanted to see him smile. No, she wanted to make him smile. Wanted to make him murmur her name again, over and over, until she knew he was lost in the pleasure haze.
“You’re so beautiful . . . so beautiful,” she told him, unable to stop herself from calling this broad, strong man such a thing, but it was the only word that fit him right now. She had no idea that’s all it would take, but after a second,
he smiled, brilliantly, the shine reaching his eyes, and she simply melted.
...and then Zane's broad shoulders filled the space. He waited, half in the tent and half out, his hair wrapped in a bandanna, shirt off, feet bare and pants hanging low on his hips. His eyes glowed, a blue like the Caribbean ocean with black- rimmed irises, the knife strapped to his left arm and the rifle slung with a loose band around his chest. He looked wild. Feral. Amazing.

An Inquiring Writer Wants To Know:
What Storylines/Setups Are You Tired Of As A Reader?
First of all, I wanted to thank Pearl for hosting me on her blog today to promote my new Ellora’s Cave release, Reveal Me. Reveal Me is the story of Alana and Carter, old frenemies from high school. Alana didn’t really give Carter a fair shot back then and now he’s determined to create a different result after their chance meeting at a voyeuristic sex club called Kink. This story is very special to my heart for a lot of reasons and I’ve grown really attached to these characters and this “world.” The story about Alana’s best friend Kelly is finished and with my editor and I’m in the process of writing two more connected stories about other characters in this world. Part of that world is Kink, who has become almost as real to me as another character.
Kink isn’t the typical sex club I read about most often. There are rooms for the more adventurous who are interested in BDSM, etc. but I’m not focused on exploring that aspect here. Kink’s more about the freedom to be yourself, with anyone watching. My characters all, in one way or another, learn if voyeurism, public sex or sex with more than one partner works for them. For some of them, it does. For some, it really does not.
I’d like to think “my” sex club’s a bit different than the ones out there already but I’m curious if there are certain setups or storylines you’ve seen enough of and aren’t interested in reading any more about. Maybe it’s a certain type of were-creature you’ve read more about than you’d ever care to. I’m sincerely curious.
My iffy subject area right now is menages. They seem to be everywhere and sometimes too much of a good thing can be...too much. But I read a really fabulous one last week that raised the bar -- Raising The Stakes by Jess Dee. I’m also writing one in the next book in the Kink series but I’m determined to make it just a little different.
So now it’s your turn! What type of story or trope has you crying, “Enough already”? Cari will pick a random commenter to win a copy of Reveal Me.

Alana MacGregor craves excitement, but when her sometimes lover dumps her at a popular sex club, she wonders if she’s outgrown her live-fast-and-recover-later lifestyle. The last thing she expects is to run into the nerdy guy she rebuffed in high school—or for him to rock her world in ways no other man ever has.
Hot on the trail of a story, Carter Nicholas can’t believe his luck at encountering the one woman he’s never forgotten. He’s come a long way from being a wall-hugging geek. Now he gets all A’s between the sheets. But can he convince Alana he’s her sure ticket to an unforgettable night—and maybe much more?
